I can feel the excitement of new beginnings and fresh starts. I see the rush that y’all are feeling, sharing your goals with your friends and followers, for the world to see and hold you accountable and cheer you on. I have already experienced the confusion and subsequent embarrassment at writing the incorrect date on important documents (multiple times). That means it’s finally 2019.
We’ve been leading up to this date for weeks now, maybe even months, planning and dreaming, putting up and taking down decorations, and now, getting right down to it and being intentional with our time and energy. I’m seeing so many sharing their hopes and dreams and goals with the world and receiving true encouragement and support from those around them as they step out in faith in this new year. And I’ve seen many of you talking about your word of the year. So let’s talk about it, friends, because I’m excited for this one. I feel like this idea is relatively new, becoming really popular in the last 2-3 years, and so let me explain my perspective before I share my word for 2019 with you.
Last year was the first time that I’ve ever mindfully practiced choosing a word for my year. I sort of had a not-so-nice impression of the whole process, and I didn’t believe it was really effective or worth spending time on, but as I dug into my Powersheets and started really understanding the power of goal setting and getting intentional, I was intrigued. I chose the word FOCUS for 2018, and in some aspects, it actually helped me stay on top of my goals and remember the “why” for what I was doing. I liked having this word to come back to, pray over, and to remind myself that there was a reason I was setting these goals in the first place.
When it came to 2019, I have been sure for some time that I would continue this process, Powersheets and Bible in hand, and step into 2019 with a refreshed perspective and intention to make things happen! So when the DaySpring Word of the Year Quiz fell in my lap, it was the perfect opportunity to listen to where God is leading me this year. The quiz is simple, only seven questions, and it points you towards a word that God has placed on your heart, complete with resources on how to live your faith through your word in 2019. I feel that last year I almost put too much pressure on myself to choose the perfect word that would take me through the year. So, I loved the fact that this quiz gives me the word that I most relate to based on how I answered the questions provided, and I’m thrilled with the direction it took me.

My word for 2019 is DELIGHT. Delight in the Lord (always). Delight in the little details. Delight in the mundane, everyday tasks. Delight when my flight gets delayed. Delight when I really want pizza but I’m choosing to eat a salad instead. Delight.
I believe this is the word that the Lord is nudging me towards in 2019 for one big reason. I can’t sit still. I have trouble slowing down and just being. And I’m always trying to plan, organize, and schedule out the future. In 2019, God is calling me to take delight in the moment that I’m in rather than rushing ahead and moving onto the next thing. He’s calling me to find the delight in a moment where I would rather look for something to complain about. He’s calling me to delight in Him always because He is the only one who can provide true peace and rest for my busy heart.
If you haven’t chosen a word for your year, or if you just want to see what this is all about, I highly encourage you to take the Word of the Year Quiz at DaySpring.com. And come back and share your 2019 word of the year with me so I can be cheering you on this year! Let’s make it happen!
