February was a light reading month for me – I just haven’t been super motivated to pick up a book lately. Instead, we watched all three seasons of Yellowstone and several of The Walking Dead, did a lot of cleaning out and organizing, and spent lots of time with friends and family. I have several books I’m in the middle of right now, so I’m hoping to finish those soon and pick up a few more this month!

THE NEW CORNER OFFICE BY LAURA VANDERKAM – 3 STARS
I always love a personal development book, and this one was written during the pandemic, and all about how to efficiently and effectively work from home during the “new normal”. I really enjoyed it!
THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS BY C.S. LEWIS – 5 STARS
I’ve been recommending this book a lot lately, so I figured it was time to reread as I hadn’t picked it up in several years. I think Lewis is a genius for this book – letters written between Screwtape and Wormwood, teacher and student, two demons working to steer human souls away from the “enemy” (God). It’s obviously fiction, but such an insightful look at how the enemy manipulates us daily without us even realizing it.
THE LOOK-ALIKE BY ERICA SPINDLER – 4 STARS
I read this book start to finish on a random Sunday when I’d been feeling a little down and in a reading slump, and it delivered. Is it the best thriller I’ve ever read? No. But it drew me in and kept me guessing until the very end. Dysfunctional family, small town rumor-mill, handsome mysterious neighbor and all.
THE TURN OF THE KEY BY RUTH WARE – 2 STARS
I was quiiite disappointed with this one. Historically, I find Ruth Ware’s books intriguing, but they often veer into a realm of disbelief that I just can’t get over – they’re too far-fetched. This book had the makings of something very interesting – a girl gets a nannying job for an extremely wealthy family in Scotland and discovers that the family and their home are full of secrets. Where it went wrong for me was when the plot became seemingly paranormal. Loooong book to be wrapped up messily in the last 20 pages.
