In 2019, the concept of simplifying has been very prevalent and top of mind no matter where you look. Decluttering and organizing is all the rage – which of course is totally fine by me when I get to scroll through Instagram and look at beautiful before-and-after photos of well-organized pantries and bathroom cabinets. It seems like everywhere you look, people are trying to rid themselves of the clutter that they’ve accumulated over the past decade. Everywhere I turn, I’m inspired to simplify my life.
And I guess you could say I’m in the same boat at the moment. I’ve said it before, but I don’t really love getting rid of things. I call myself an “organized hoarder”, and I’ve got closets, baskets, bins, and more overflowing with belongings to prove it. Not only that, but I also feel like my mind is full of clutter – ideas and to-dos and tons of tiny things that I don’t want to forget, but that keep me distracted or overwhelmed. One of my big goals of 2019 was to simplify my life. Simplifying means different things to different people, but to me, it literally means just making room for white space. Clearing out the junk. Letting go of things that no longer serve me.

I’ve spent a good deal of time in 2019 determining exactly how I wanted to tackle this “Simplified Project” and broken it down into several categories. I wanted to literally simplify my belongings: my closet, my paper clutter, my outrageous amount of coffee mugs. The goal here is to physically remove items from my home. I also wanted to simplify my tech life: clean out my camera roll, contacts, messages, unfollow accounts on social media, organize my desktop. The goal here is to free up space on the devices that we use literally every day to store things that matter, and remove unnecessary distractions. Lastly, I wanted to simplify, or rather streamline, my routines and habits.
All of these goals are big and daunting (to me), and they’ve taken a long time to come to terms with, but I’m ready to have breathing room in my physical and emotional space. So basically long story short, I’m on a simplifying journey and I’m taking you with me along the way! I’ve already made great progress and learned so much that I’ll be sharing here as I go for accountability, so let’s do it together!
